Blogging is the easiest way to keep your site (and yourself) fresh to your users and to search engines and maintain quality SEO. Obviously, you want the content you are creating to be optimized in some way towards what you would like to be found for, using keywords within your posts. But did you know that the categories you choose for your post can be equally as important?
Most websites use a content management system that allows you to create and choose numerous categories for your posts. Often ignored, these categories are a wellspring of added SEO value. However, most bloggers ignore them and allow their posts to default to “Uncategorized”.
Are you posting on how to fix flux capacitors? Consider categories as simple as “Fixing Flux Capacitors” or “Flux Capacitor Repair”. When someone searches for help with their time machine, your post may appear on the first page. Or maybe you are a hair salon that specializes in quality shampoos. Your post is on recognizing the best ingredients for hair care. Consider “Quality Hair Care Products” or “Best Shampoo Ingredients”. Even better, use both.
So the next time you create a post, keep in mind good SEO and get those keywords into your categories!
